Friday's Moment of Question and Reason

Wendi C. Thomas of The Commercial Appeal have out-done herself again...Check this out;

If you're a Christian, must you vote Republican?

Can you be a Democrat and be saved?

Since Michael Moore is known in the states as a guy that got rich off of hating America, can I agree with him and still go to heaven (because hate is wrong)?

If you believe that Bible condemns homosexuality, can you still support Kerry?

If Jesus embraced outcast (gays, immigrants, the handicapped, and poor) and God tells us to love our neighbors as ourselves, why don't we act on it?

He also says love those who curse you, so why can't we (majority of Americans) find level ground to get along with the Muslim Community?

What would Jesus do? Would he vote for Kerry or George W?

But if Jesus really is a Republican, why did He ride into Jerusalem on a donkey, not an elephant?

I'll keep you posted

See, now those are some thought provoking questions. I've got answers, but I'm feeling lazy this morning. I'll have to get back to you on those, LOL.

Did Jesus embrace homosexuals? How could he embrace what is condemned as an abomination?

What did he say about casting stones? Remember Jesus didn't hangout with the high priest...He hungout with the outcast...The lost souls...I'll keep you posted

True that, GC. Jesus showed love for the prostitutes, tax collectors, lepers, mentally afflicted, even the folks who tormented Him. He had love for all of 'em. If you was to' up, then Jesus was your homie. So even though he never condoned their sinful behavior, he was down to save them and absolve them of all wrongdoing. That sounds like some embracing to me.

The Bible also condemns telling falsehoods. Guess we can't vote for W. either.

If God is love, then God loves everyone. You can't have it both ways.

As a Christian I resent having to live in a time where I have to qualify that I'm not one of "those" Christians who can't stand a particular part of God's creation. It's hypocritical. The religion should be based in love, not fear.

Finally, as a psychologist, I can tell you, homosexuality is very much biological. I keep wanting to ask people who think sexuality is a choice: when exactly did you "choose" to be straight? And how difficult a decision was that for you??

I guess being a baby Christian and coming from a rigid sect of Christianity that (to me, anyways) always underscored the judgmental aspect of God, I still have trouble reconciling the loving nature of Jesus and God with the angry aspect that requires obedience.

I know we were using homosexuality, but examine Proverbs 6:16-19. It details things that the Lord HATES. Is hate not a strong word? Did the love and kindness Jesus displayed no doubt encompass those that practiced these things that God despises? Can you see a contradiction? Where is the line? We're all imperfect humans, meaning we do stuff that God hates. Yet He still loves us? At what point does He stop loving us? When does He activate that righteous wrath against us, and when does He "hug" and forgive us.

I have a feeling I just opened a big can of worms for myself...
